Web 2.0

The phrase ‘Web 2.0’ was first coined in 2004 refers to the changes in the way that both software developers and end users utilise the web. The term does not refer to any technical changes but rather as a driver of changes. 

The main features that make Web 2.0 unique from Web 1.0 centre on increasing interactivity between parties, sharing information between parties to collaborate across web based communities (such as social networking sites and video sharing sites). Web 2.0 also consists of sites and programmes that aim to increase the user experience on the web through dynamic content, open source software and user participation.

Web 2.0 sites generally have user interfaces that are user friendly and attractive to the end user. This has increased the use of Flash, Ajax and Java on many new websites.
