An opt-in data base is a data base that is built of people that have voluntarily agreed to be contacted by external companies regarding their offers. These are usually at the bottom of contact and purchase forms and customers can tick a box to either opt in or out of being contacted via email. Opt-in data can also come from offline sources such as competition entries or in store membership schemes. This data is then complied into a list, which can become the list of recipients for any email marketing campaigns. This data generally allows for better targeting as customers who have agreed to opt-in generally include extra information such as addresses and date of births. This can become the basis on which to segment customers upon and target their offers on.
